Luis Kong

Mr. Kong is actively consulting in organizational and community development for grassroots community groups, non-profits and small businesses. He also provides workshops on board of director’s and staff training, organizational change, long-range planning, as well as strategies for team building, sustainable designs and diversity awareness. He has used change strategies such Open Space Technology, Appreciative Inquiry, artistic expression, popular education, community asset-based perspectives and participatory evaluation tools to explore the best practices that mobilizes organizations and individuals towards successful results and collaborative learning experiences. He is an experienced group facilitator, innovative project developer and systems strategist. As a professional life coach, he assists clients in creating powerful performance structures to help them realize their work and personal goals in a balanced, integrated and action oriented way. He is interested in individuals and organizations who are making a positive difference in the world.

 He studied biology and English Literature at Sonoma State University. He has a Master degree in education from San Francisco State University. He is currently a doctoral candidate in adult Education at National-Louis University in Chicago.

 He is a professor at the Center for Adult Education, San Francisco State University. He is currently working on developing a comprehensive training in cultural and racial diversity for community benefit organizations in collaboration with the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County.

  He has worked as a community organizer working in micro-enterprise development and cooperatives with the Sonoma-Napa Action Project, a faith-based community organization affiliated to the Industrial Areas Foundation.  He is involved as a volunteer facilitator with the Alternatives To Violence Project, a Quaker originated project that provides experiential workshops focusing on Conflict resolution and non-violence training. He is a board member of La Luz Center, a key community-based organization helping families in the Sonoma Valley. He is a member of the Sonoma Valley Poetry Festival and an active member of the Sonoma County branch of California Poets in the Schools. He is also a board member of the Instituto Sanchez-Mendoza in Santa Rosa, an organization devoted to empowering Latino immigrants to become leaders in their community using capacity building, asset-based community development methodologies such as popular education, popular theater and community organizing.  

He has been featured in the Who’s Who of Hispanic Americans in the US. He is an organizational and community development consultant, educator, poet and cultural broker.
