Barbara Thompson frequently speaks at workshops, seminars, and conferences, presenting a wide variety of business, interpersonal, and personal topics, and impacts audiences with her engaging and interactive style. She has also made guest appearances on radio shows in Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay area.

Her professional training and experience span 30 years, including training as a psychologist, a master's degree in psychology, and continuing education in management, business, and psychology. Barbara received her B.A. in Psychology from Biola University in 1971 and her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Western Seminary in 1981. In 1986, Barbara founded Discovery Psychotherapy Center, a multi-disciplinary counseling center, which provides individual, group, family, and marital counseling. Barbara is licensed in California as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC21925) and as a Life Agent (0D54738). She also actively serves on the board of Celebration Senior Services in Shingle Springs, California, a non-profit organization that provides daycare services for seniors in a supportive environment.

Barbara is a Certified Consultant in Workplace Mediation, and her formal mediation training includes 40 hours in Essentials of Mediation and Divorce Mediation plus 16 hours in Advanced Mediation from the Northern California Mediation Center as well as 20 hours in Workplace Mediation from the Mediation Training Institute. She also has completed hundreds of hours of continuing education, including specialized training in personal coaching, in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, in consulting to partners, couples, and families in business, and in workplace violence prevention and corporate crisis intervention.

Ms. Thompson has experience in critical incident stress management and forming and directing crisis management teams for handling dangerous employee incidents in the workplace. She has provided numerous on-site grief and crisis debriefings in the workplace and assists management teams in handling such events that threaten employees' safety and disrupt workflow.
